It’s been an unusual year for everyone, and what better way to get into the holiday spirit than to start your gift giving lists. Here are some gift ideas for the beekeeper in your life.
Supplies, accessories and tools anyone? Some beekeepers need a few while others need a lot. If someone is starting out there are lots of options. Supplies also need to be replaced over time or maybe it’s time for an upgrade. There are many accessories and tools in different price ranges that make a great stocking stuffer or larger gift. Here are a few ideas any beekeeper needs: Hive tools, hive parts (like frames or supers), smokers, jars, protective clothing (gloves and suits), hive monitor systems and the list goes on. If you aren’t sure, a gift card always works too.
Buzzing Bees. If you or someone is just starting with beekeeping or are planning the next season, everyone needs 2021 live bees. Our winter savings is still on until Dec. 28. Hiveworld has a selection of package bees and nucs for BC and AB. We also have starter hives with live bees (for AB only). All of our bees are government inspected and come with our live bee guarantee. The guarantee covers different areas based on our product, but essentially, if there is a problem (for example: the queen dies upon arrival), we will replace your live bee purchase free of charge.
The gift of knowledge. If The beekeeper in your life is just starting out or in their first few years of beekeeping, a beekeeping course is a definite need. It gives them the basics when they are just getting started, and is a good refresher for those who are couple of years in. At these sessions they also get a chance to ask questions to a beekeeping expert who will share their experience and advice. We currently have online courses available and they are a great option for anyone as you get to do it from the comfort of your won home. We are hoping to hold in-person sessions in the new year-if possible.
Other great ideas. Beekeeping books like Beekeeping in Western Canada, beekeeping magazines (like Hive Lights or Bee Culture). Find a special journal to write their beekeeping field notes throughout the year. Or, another great idea is to get a unique decal made for their beekeeping suit or hives.
And what is everyone's favourite gift from a beekeeper? Honey or comb honey, of course!
